1. Preheat oven to 180ºC/350ºF and have ready a shallow ovenproof dish.
2. Peel pears, halve and remove stalk and core.
3. Cream together the cheese, 1/2 cup sugar and almonds and divide between the pear halves, mounding into cavities. Place filled side up in dish, pour in sufficient water to give 1/2 inch depth and garnish with remaining sugar. Bake for approx. 20 minutes until pears are tender and filling is slightly golden.
Serve hot with juices from dish.
